With the NHL Draft coming up on June 27 and free agency opening on July 1, discussions between NHL general managers are heating up towards a busy off-season. Each day, TSN.ca provides the latest rumours, reports and speculation from around the NHL beat. Defensive Depth TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun is reporting the Toronto Maple Leafs have considerable interest in unrestricted free-agent defenceman Dan Boyle. LeBrun says one source believes Torontos interest is "serious." The Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers are also interested in the services of the 37-year-old. LeBrun says the New York Islanders still remain an option with the Montreal Canadiens likely out of the running after re-signing Andrei Markov. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reported on the following issues: Patience is a Virtue Minnesota Wild forward Dany Heatley and former Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Malone may have to be patient in free agency according to Dreger. Dreger says their willingness to take one-year contracts will draw attention from more teams. The Lightning used their second compliance buyout on Malone on Wednesday while Heatley will become an unrestricted free-agent on July 1. Draft Talk Conversation regarding the Florida Panthers first overall pick should heat up Thursday ahead of Fridays NHL Entry Draft. If offers for the top pick dont improve, Florida intends to hold on to it. Canucks Complex Dealings The Vancouver Canucks are still trying to trade Ryan Kesler but this is a complicated negotiation. Its believed Kesler has identified just two teams in the Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks. That puts rookie general manager Jim Benning and the management of the Canucks in a tough spot because theyre just negiotioation with the two teams. Maybe its possible that the Canucks try to pull in their horns in an effort to encourage Kelser to expand his list. Blackhawks Hope to Keep the Band Together GM Stan Bowman and the Chicago Blackhawks are very eager to make sure the star component remains intact for a lengthy period of time. Were talking about how the new CBA is going to impact the superstar model of player and certainly Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews qualify as such. No longer is it allowed to frontload and go with that 10, 12 or 15-year mega-deal. Now we know its a maximum of eight years so its not inconceivable that, as long as the salary cap climbs to around $75 million in 2016 that Kane and Toews could come in around $11-12 million each. Iginla and Alfredsson Drawn Together Jarome Iginla and Daniel Alfredsson could have an impact on each others future, depending on whether they both get what they want, which is to sign where they played last year. Iginla wants to stay with the Boston Bruins and theres talk theyre negotiating on both a two-year deal and perhaps a one-year deal maybe very similar to the contract he signed with the Bruins last year with a cap hit of $1.8 million with a bonus structure that deeply impacted the Bruins. If they cant get a deal done in Boston, then the Detroit Red Wings are among the teams that are keenly interested in Iginla as well. The Red Wings also have interest in Alfredsson, who is believed to be coming back but he hasnt made it 100 per cent certain yet. He works on his own timeframe, similar to Teemu Selanne but Im also told hes willing to be flexible. ----------------------------------------- Shopping Around Despite a good conversation between the team and his agent, Paul Stastny plans to test the free-agent market before making a decision on his future. Adrian Dater of the Denver Post spoke with Avalanche executive vice president of hockey operations Joe Sakic, who said Stastny wants to field offers before seeing if his current team will match the amounts. Dater also reports Sakic saying that he isnt put off by Stastnys plan to field offers because hes earned the right to be in that position. Vinny On The Move? Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Flyers general manager Ron Hextall might be willing to move veteran forward Vincent Lecavalier if he agrees to waive his no-trade clause. In the report, Hextall is quoted as saying hes spoken to Lecavaliers agent but would not elaborate further. Carchidis story also talks about Flyers draft prospects and the players they are looking at selecting in the upcoming NHL Draft. Discount Shoes Black Friday . Vincent Lecavalier scored at 2:45 of overtime and the Flyers rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 5-4 victory on Sunday.DENVER - Danilo Gallinaris every moment on the court will be closely tracked and monitored. For now, no more than 20 minutes a game for the Denver Nuggets forward, no matter how well hes playing, how tight the game may be or how much he pleads. Its a restriction Gallinari can tolerate. Sure, he feels like he could play way more than that, but he doesnt want to press his luck. His left knee is finally strong again after three surgeries and nearly 18 months away. Gallinari will return to the floor Wednesday night in the season opener against Detroit for the first time since blowing out that knee on April 4, 2013.Just another game. At least, thats how the 26-year-old Italian is trying to treat it.If I dont, Ill be too nervous, he said. Im happy, a little nervous. But when you have a chance to do what you love every day, its great. This time last year, Gallinari was nothing more than a spectator, his knee not co-operating.Now, theres no pain and Gallinaris jumper has never looked smoother. His dunking? Not quite as graceful. He was knocking down one deep 3-pointer after another at practice Tuesday. But when he grabbed a rebound and went in for a dunk, it looked more like an awkward layup.Dunkings not the best part of my game, Gallinari said, grinning. Ill let someone else do it.His strength is that outside shot, something the Nuggets have been sorely missing. Gallinari led the team with 135 3-pointers in 2012-13.And as much as the Nuggets might want him on the court at all times, theyll ease him into the season by limiting his action. They came up with this plan and well just stick to the plan, Gallinari said.Denver coach Brian Shaws not quite sure how hes going to spread out Gallinaris minutes, something he has to figure out as he goes along. Gallinari will split time with fellow forwards Wilson Chandler and Alonzo Gee.The biggest part is if I usse 15 minutes in the first half with Gallinari, do I want to save him for the last five minutes of the game? Shaw said.dddddddddddd. Is that fair to him after sitting out most of the second half? Im going to let it flow and let the game dictate the way hes playing.Like Gallinari, Shaw will closely monitor the minutes of Nate Robinson and J.J. Hickson, who are both back after suffering ACL injuries. Same with JaVale McGee, whos on the mend from a left tibia stress fracture.Once theyre all up and running, they just might be an outside threat in the West. Thats the take of Gallinari, anyway.Weve always been the underdog and it will be that way this year, too, Gallinari said. The team will run to the beat of guard Ty Lawson, whos been dealing with a balky left hamstring in the preseason. So much so that Shaw even gave Lawson and the rest the team the weekend off to heal up.Team President Josh Kroenke kidded Shaw about the move in a news conference after practice. You just wanted to BBQ and watch football, Kroenke said. And fish. Got a little fishing in, Shaw said. (The break) worked the way I wanted it to work. ... We came back and really got after it.NOTES: In Shaws opinion, Lawson took his recent visit with Broncos QB Peyton Manning to heart as the two talked all about leadership. When asked if there was a little bit of Mannings demeanour in Lawson, Kroenke jokingly interjected: Well know if he calls out our scoreboard guy. That was a reference to Manning getting upset at the person running the video board for playing music when the five-time NFL MVP was operating the offence in a win over San Diego last Thursday. ... The Nuggets split with the Pistons last season, each team winning at home. ... Hicksons season debut will be delayed as he serves a five-game suspension for violating the terms of the leagues anti-drug program. ' ' '
